The Last of the Mohicans – The Gael

PDF File Download: Last of the Mohicans – The Gael NAF Tab

Original Composer: Originally composed by Dougie MacLean, as used in the soundtrack for Last of the Mohicans.

Technical notes: Very fast piece, requires use of cross-fingering. Play on an NAF in the key of A if you wish to accompany the original track.

About: This is the fast-flowing cyclic violin piece that can be heard twice in the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack;  on it’s own in track 3 ‘The Kiss’ and as an undercurrent in the magnificent track number 6 ‘Promontory’ which is heard towards the end of the film, during the chase up the mountain side.

On Playing: Start off playing it nice and slowly whilst you’re memorizing the placement of your fingers before trying to move up to full speed as it’s very fast! You may need to omit the odd note at the end of a phrase in order to get a breath in when trying to play it at full speed rather than running out in the middle of one, but play about with it and see what works for you; people with better lung capacity than I, or who are familiar with circular breathing, might not need to.
