Lord of the Rings – The Edge of Night

PDF File Download: Lord of the Rings – The Edge of Night NAF Tab

Original Composer: Billy Boyd

Technical notes: Requires use of two upper octave notes, one cross-fingering. Play on an NAF in the key of C# if you wish to accompany the original track.

Waffle: This beautiful little piece is heard as part of a larger track ‘The Steward of Gondor’ on the Return of the King soundtrack. It’s sung by Pippin (actor Billy Boyd, who in fact composed the melody for it!) to Denethor, the Steward of Gondor, who bids him to sing as he eats whilst his son Faramir and his men ride into a battle they cannot hope to win. The lyrics came from the last stanza of the poem ‘A Walking Song’ written by J.R.R. Tolkien which is included in the first book of the trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring:

Home is behind, the world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow, to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight

Mist and shadow
Cloud and shade
All shall fade
All shall fade
