Dances with Wolves – Love Theme

PDF File Download: Dances with Wolves – Love Theme NAF Tab

Original Composer: John Barry

Technical notes: Half holing is used on the bottom note, one upper octave note. Play on an NAF in the key of D if you wish to accompany the original track.

About: Dances with Wolves and it’s soundtrack are amongst my very favorites and the Love Theme for John Dunbar and Stands With A Fist is one of the highlights of the album. This theme, starting at 0.18 in the track just after the strings, is very gently – almost hesitantly – played on flute, so it translates well to the NAF.

On Playing: The first couple of lines are played then repeated, as noted in the tab. Experiment to find the right balance between playing as gently as heard in the original track, whilst still maintaining enough force to sound the higher notes in pitch. It would sound great on a breathier flute and with a good amount of vibrato as played on the soundtrack. The end note is held a while, so make sure you have enough breath left to let it run and just fade out.
