The Hobbit – Misty Mountains

PDF File Download: The Hobbit – Misty Mountains NAF Tab

Original Composer: Howard Shore

Technical notes: Requires use of one cross-fingered note. Play on an NAF in the key of D if you wish to accompany the original track.

About: Sung by Thorin Oakenshield and his company of dwarves at the assembly in Bag End, before their grand adventure starts. Within the film just two verses are sung, but it occurs as a leitmotif throughout the rest of the soundtrack and a fantastic version titled ‘Song of the Lonely Mountain’ and sang by Neil Finn plays during the end credits of the end of the first film (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey)

On Playing: Very easy to play – the cross fingered note is very commonly used – and would undoubtedly sound even more fabulous on a drone flute, to provide some of the other ‘voices’!

Listen to the track on YouTube:

Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To find our long-forgotten gold.

The pines were roaring on the height,
The winds were moaning in the night.
The fire was red, it flaming spread;
The trees like torches blazed with light.
