PDF File Download: Game of Thrones – Goodbye Brother NAF Tab
Original Composer: Ramin Djawadi
Technical notes: Requires use one cross-fingering, two upper octave notes and half-holing on the bottom hole. Play on an NAF in the key of G if you wish to accompany the original track.
About: This gorgeous, wrenching track occurs as a leitmotif throughout the seasons of Game of Thrones, but we hear it for the first time in season one, when Jon leaves Winterfell for the North (if memory serves correctly…been a while since I last watched it!) For the first half it’s played by either violin or viola – sorry, I’m not knowledgeable enough of string instruments to tell the difference – then very somberly and beautifully by cello for it’s second half.
On Playing: This is another one of those pieces I’ve gone back and forth on deciding whether it ‘works’ on NAF or not, but again, I decided to throw caution to the wind and upload in the hopes someone will get some enjoyment out of it :)
It’s a very slow piece overall, but there are some small groups of three descending notes that are played kind of like a ‘roll’ together – you’ll see the notes clustered together without any spaces in the tab. The last line of the second section, which includes the half-hole, jumps up to the next octave in the original track but as we can’t reach that high on NAF I transposed it back down. There are lots of long, sustained notes in this piece with a little vibrato (but don’t overdo it!) which will help test your breath control.
