Game of Thrones – Main Theme

PDF File Download: Game of Thrones – Main Theme NAF Tab

Original Composer: Ramin Djawadi

Technical notes: Requires use of one cross-fingered note. Play on an NAF in the key of G if you wish to accompany the original track.

About: Oh man, is there anyone who doesn’t instantly recognise this epic theme?! :) Perhaps one of the most iconic pieces of music from a TV show in modern times, Ramin’s theme was a wonderful ‘galloping’ tempo. There are many incredible cover versions all over the internet if you have a look!

On Playing: For such an epic-sounding song, it’s actually incredibly easy to play on NAF!
I know the first segment may seem a little confusing at first, but I hope it will become clearer once you attempt playing it;  this is the ‘intro’ part to the main theme (do-do, doo-dee-do-do…!) that is then heard accompanying the melody throughout. The main theme begins on the fourth line, played on the cello in the track and repeated accompanied by violin the second time around. The next segment is the third repeat of the main theme, this time rendered by a grouping of strings, with a slightly different ending to the second line.
The next section of the song was hard to tab as it didn’t fit within the range of the NAF, so I took a big chunk of inspiration from Taylor Davis’ fantastic violin cover of the theme which provides a nice variation on this segment of the melody that actually fits on NAF and still sounds great; I didn’t transcribe it note-for-note, but you can add in the extras or embellish it if you wish. Thanks, Taylor! :)
